Hi Whitney,

Last time I encountered one of these it didn't seem like Timecapsule had an
option to disable its DHCP server. If that is still the case that means it's
not possible to have it on the Stanford Residences network as this would
cause a rouge DHCP server situation. My solution back then was to simply
have the time capsule run its own separate encrypted wireless network (with
no internet access) and had the resident connect to it whenever she wanted
to back up. (Not at all ideal but I didn't see any way around it.) If you
set it up this way you can use the printer in the same way. You can hook the
printer up to the Stanford Residences network and register it with a
non-internet-routable ip too if he/she really wants wireless printing but
you'll have to register it manually. To be honest I'd say just use USB
unless it's a huge hassle.

Best,

Michael

Hey guys,

I have a resident who is trying to set up her Mac Timecapsule and Cannon
wireless printer. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with either of
these. Has anyone set up a Timecapsule over the Stanford Residences
network? Do I need to register it on the rescomp site? And we're thinking
that once the Timecapsule is set up we can connect the printer to the
Timecapsule and it will connect to the network from there...does that seem
viable?

Thanks,
Whitney

I've been trying for a while to get an airport into bridge mode -- I
suspect the problem is the same w/ the time capsule, that is, tracking
down the bridge mode setting in the latest version of the software --
has anyone set one of these up RECENTLY, as in post snow-leopard?
I've helped my residents setup a few of these. There's a mode called
bridge mode, which will turn off DHCP and NAT. Generally, setting up
the Time Capsule as an access point is straightforward. Getting the
printer to work is a bit of a toss up. If all the settings look right
on the Time Capsule and printer, but the printer still doesn't
connect properly, you should try resetting the Time Capsule
configuration.
